Premiere for Arlanda Express’ major initiative
After two years of work the Arlanda Express Framtidståg (The train of the Future) is finally ready for service. The details have fallen into place one by one and comfort goes hand in hand with the New Nordic design concept developed specifically for the project, which required a total investment of SEK 100 million. Passengers will know they are traveling with Arlanda Express – a choice that pays for itself not only in the short travel time, but also in convenience and design.
Earlier this year Stockholmers designated Arlanda Express as the best company in the travel industry. CEO Per Thorstenson considers development and renewal to be important components for the customer satisfaction for which the company has been recognized on several other occasions. Framtidståget is the company's next major step in its efforts to amaze its customers – the most modern train in Sweden, where comfort and design go hand in hand.
“With the new train design and comfort we hope to surprise both customers and personnel. We worked on designing a number of details that have never been seen on Swedish trains before, including our own ergonomic chair that gives the feeling of a private sphere – riding ‘in the bubble’ – as well as improved luggage space. Despite better legroom, we were able to fit in 20 percent more seats,” says Per Thorstenson.
The feeling of moving, “transition,” will characterize the journey and the goal is for travelers to enjoy a relaxing 20-minute experience. The design agency Idesign worked on “The New Nordic” theme and modernized the pure, Scandinavian design tradition.
“The exterior is also thoroughly redesigned. It should be evident that it moves quickly and we have introduced the color white to complement the yellow, to contribute to a sense of timelessness, purity, and simplicity. The exterior will also simultaneously radiate speed and modernity,” says Per Thorstenson.
Today is the premiere for the first Framtidståget. All seven trains are being upgraded in Malmö by Euromaint Rail and are expected to be ready by the summer of 2011.
