Arlanda Express Environmental Policy
Environmental matters are a joint responsibility of the private sector, the public sector - and not the least - the individual. The Arlanda Express Environmental Policy is based on a comprehensive approach to our role in societey and that encompasses all operations at the company.
Our policy is not an end in itself. We do not have it to satisfy or impress others, or to feel clever. We have the policy because this is something we demand of ourselves.
For the Arlanda Express to be perceived as an environmentally aware company, our staff must:
- have knowledge of environmental matters so as to be able to work with environmental awareness in a consciensous manner
- make efforts to reduce the compnay's environmental impact include
- awareness when making purchases
- reduced consumption of materials and energy
- Place demands on suppliers so that they deliver products that comply with our demands.
This is the only way that our operations can be conducted as resource-efficient as possible and with minimal impact on the environment.
|
But our efforts don't stop there. We also:
- Present periodic reports and running accounts of our environmental efforts
- Conduct periodic follow-ups through environmental audits.
- Fulfil and preferably exceed the demands of laws, ordinances and ISO 14001.

As if it wasn't enough that Arlanda Epress is the quickest way of travelling between Stockholm and Arlanda, it's also by far the the most environmentally friendly way. The arlanda Express was desgnated as a Good Environmental Choice by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation - the first transport company to fulfil the new stringent requirements.
First of all, the electrically powered trains do not produce any environmentally harmful emission at all. Secondly, all Arlanda Express trains have been powered by environmentally labelled electricity from renewable energy sources since the spring of 2001. Let us explain what this means in practice. During 2003, more than 2.5 million passengers rode the Arlanda Express. Environmentally harmful emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), were consequently reduced by 4,900 tons and 1.4 tons respectively in comparison to emissions if these passengers had instead travelled by car (our calculations are based on an average of two passengers per car).
If all air passengers and employees within the Arlanda Express catchment area chose the train instead of travelling by car, emissions would be reduced by about 50,000 tons of CO2 and about 325 tons of NOx each year. At the same time, there would be approximately 95,000 fewer car trips and 2,300 fewer bus trips each week on the E4 motorway.
In other words, when you choose the Arlanda Express it's not just matter of speed and comfort, you're also making a tangible contribution to the environment.

Arlanda Express Environmental Award
The Arlanda Express and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation jointly present an annual award to the company with the best-implemented travel policy; this to encourage changed travel behaviour within the private and public sectors.
The Arlanda Express is the owner of the award, while the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation chooses the winners. The award is sponsored by the insurance company Länsförsäkringar AB. The main award is normally SEK 50,000, but the society may also award a maximum of three special awards.
