70 million passengers have now travelled on the Arlanda Link between Stockholm city centre and Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The Arlanda Link was built to relieve the E4 expressway and to contribute environmental benefits through rail traffic. This year, a further six million passengers are expected to choose the train as a means of transport to and from the airport.
The Swedish Parliament of the time decided in 1994 to build a railway link between Stockholm and Arlanda Airport. The Arlanda Link was an environmental project that was to reduce the environmental impact caused by passenger vehicles and bus traffic.
-If the Arlanda Link did not exist, tailbacks on the road would be longer, emissions higher and more people would worry about whether they would make their flight in time, says Per Thorstenson, CEO Arlanda Express.
Today, the Arlanda Link is the quickest, most reliable and greenest alternative for traveling between Stockholm and Arlanda Airport. The main operator on the Arlanda Link, Arlanda Express, has also won awards for its commitment in the areas of customer service and diversity.
-We have been named the company with the most satisfied customers on numerous occasions. One of the reasons we are able to offer world-class service is because we have recruited personnel with diverse cultural backgrounds who speak 25 languages, says Per Thorstenson.
In addition to the Arlanda Express, the Arlanda Link is also used by SJ and SL, among others. The Arlanda Link was opened for traffic in 1999.
